Braun Returns to the Chicago Marathon

Aaron Braun Returns to the Bank of America Chicago Marathon

FLAGSTAFF, (AZ) – August 27, 2018 – Following his 12th place finish at the 2017 Bank of America Chicago Marathon, HOKA ONE ONE Northern Arizona Elite veteran marathoner Aaron Braun will return to the Windy City for this year’s race. His entry was announced Monday as a part of the elite American field that includes fellow U.S. stars Andrew Bumbalough, Kiya Dandena and Olympic medalist Galen Rupp.

One of the most versatile athletes on the professional circuit, Braun has proven he can perform at the highest levels of road racing and track and field with personal bests ranging from 13:20.25 for 5000 meters to 1:01:38 for the half marathon and 2:12:54 for the marathon. In recent months, Braun recorded top-five finishes at the Alaska Airlines Bay to Breakers 12k and the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Half Marathon, running 1:02:54.

After finishing as the third American at the 2017 Chicago Marathon, Braun will use last year’s race experience to his advantage in 2018.

“I am really excited to have the opportunity to go back and race in Chicago,” Braun said. “I enjoyed my experience there last year and am really wanting to improve upon my place and time in the marathon now that I know more of what to expect from this great race.”

HOKA NAZ Elite Head Coach Ben Rosario said Braun is well-suited for the flat, fast course in Chicago.

“Aaron may be our best athlete in terms of finding a rhythm and locking into it and he did a great job of that last year in Chicago, minus a little blip late in the race,” Rosario said. “With a whole year of consistent training since then and with the benefit of experience, I really believe he’ll be in for a special day in Chicago.”
